According to European Pravda, Whitaker said this on Fox News.
According to the ambassador, the US expects countries such as Hungary, Slovakia and Turkey to develop and implement a plan to end their dependence on russian energy sources.
‘You know, Hungary, unlike many of its neighbours, has not developed any plans and has not taken any active measures. Therefore, we will continue to work with them, as well as with their neighbours, such as Croatia and other countries that can help them abandon russian energy resources,’ Vitaker said.
He added that the US is ready to help Hungary get rid of its dependence on russian oil and gas.
However, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán believes that, from Hungary's point of view, US sanctions against large russian oil companies were a mistake.
Orbán said he would soon be in Washington to discuss the issue of sanctions against russian oil with Donald Trump.
‘We are thinking about how to build a sustainable system for my country's economy, because Hungary is very dependent on russian oil and gas. Without them, energy prices will skyrocket, causing a shortage in our reserves,’ he added.
When asked whether Trump had ‘gone too far and made a mistake,’ the Hungarian prime minister replied: ‘From a Hungarian perspective, yes. That is why we will try to find a solution, especially for Hungary.’
