This decision was part of a joint initiative of the European Union, which allowed the proceeds of seized Russian assets to be used for the benefit of Ukrainian defense. Finland is one of the first countries to put this into practice.

The Finnish government has already signed an agreement with the European Commission. According to the agreement, heavy ammunition for Ukraine will be purchased from Finnish manufacturers and financed through the European Peace Fund (EPF), using the proceeds from frozen Russian assets. The total cost of the package is 90 million euros.

Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen noted that this decision was strategic at all levels:

"We were able to secure additional funding to support Ukraine. The funds came from frozen Russian assets. The products are purchased from the Finnish industry, which is a support for our economy. And then it goes to Ukraine to protect it from aggression. I consider this an extremely positive result."

Mr. Gäkkänen also emphasized that this assistance is in addition to the existing national support package for Ukraine worth EUR 660 million. As a result, Finland not only strengthens Ukraine's defense capabilities, but also strengthens the link between its own industry and international security strategy.

"This is a vivid example of the potential of the Finnish defense industry. And at the same time, it is a confirmation that our investments in ammunition production are already yielding results," the minister emphasized.
