The Seimas of Lithuania has decided to extend national sanctions against Russian and Belarusian citizens for another year. Despite initially proposing stricter restrictions, the final version of the bill rejected them, in particular, the initiative to unify the rules for Belarusians and Russians when issuing residence permits.
According to the current law, Lithuania does not accept applications for Schengen or national visas from citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus (except for exceptions at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and restricts the right of Russians to buy real estate and import products from these countries. Proposals to cancel residence permits for repeated visits to Russia or Belarus were also rejected.
