Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga wrote about this on social media.

He explained that several amendments to sanctions adopted by the European Union in May made it more difficult for Russian oligarchs and businessmen to circumvent restrictions by concealing property, transferring shares, and hiding assets.

“From now on, individuals and legal entities that facilitate such activities are themselves subject to sanctions. The EU no longer needs to prove that specific Russian oligarchs should be subject to sanctions; on the contrary, the oligarchs must prove the opposite,” Sybiga said.

The minister called the EU's amendments to the sanctions “an excellent strategy” that demonstrates the real power of sanctions.

“While new sanctions packages dominate the headlines, such regulatory changes can be very effective, even if they are less popular in the media,” he wrote.

He also called on all states to follow the EU's example and adopt similar decisions to prevent sanctions from being circumvented and to strengthen compliance.
