Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda called for maximum sanctions pressure on Russia.

In his opinion, Europe must act more decisively, as Russia will not stop its war against Ukraine. Nausėda suggests paying particular attention to the aggressor's financial and energy sectors.

"Lithuania always demands the maximum. This means that we must first disconnect all remaining Russian banks from the SWIFT system, add all ships belonging to the Russian shadow fleet to the sanctions list, and expand restrictions on energy companies that finance Russia's state budget, including Nord Stream, Rosatom, Gazprom, and Lukoil. Otherwise, they will consider us weak and believe that Europe is not ready to take bold decisions," Nausėda said in a comment to Bild.

The Lithuanian president acknowledged that although Russia's economy is already showing signs of weakness, the sanctions imposed have not been as effective as expected.

“There are many reasons for this. First, the measures were not decisive enough. Second, we see how third countries are helping Russia circumvent the sanctions. That is why the Russian economy, although not in the best shape, is still functioning relatively well under the current circumstances,” he explained.
