As of June 2025, 61 new criminal proceedings have been initiated in Latvia for violations of international sanctions. This was reported by the head of the Latvian National Customs Service in an interview with Global Investigations Review (subscription required).
Earlier, in the annual report of the Latvian Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) published in early 2024, it was noted that a total of 392 criminal cases had been opened on similar grounds between 2022 and the end of 2024.
Thus, the total number of criminal proceedings in Latvia related to sanctions violations has already reached 453.
These data indicate a consistently high level of attention paid by Latvian law enforcement agencies to the enforcement of sanctions legislation.
