Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said that Hungary's blocking of sanctions against Russia threatens to unfreeze €210 billion in Russian assets used to guarantee loans to Ukraine. In this case, the financial burden of supporting Kyiv will fall on EU and G7 taxpayers.

Tsahkna warned that the unfreezing of assets could result in the loss of guarantees for a €50 billion loan to Ukraine. Hungary may exercise its veto right during discussions on the extension of sanctions in July, and the European Commission is already looking for alternatives, although the chances of success are low.
