Between January and March 2025, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) agreed comprehensive settlements with three UK exporters totalling approximately £3.7 million for export licence breaches relating to the unlicensed export of military goods. These breaches were recorded under the Export Controls Order 2008 and the Customs and Excise Act 1979, but do not relate to sanctions offences.
The three settlements agreed with the companies include: £10,900 in January, £431,232 in February and £3,231,762 in February 2025. HMRC is using its powers to resolve breaches through complex settlements rather than prosecutions, provided that businesses are not trying to avoid scrutiny.
