Lithuania is sounding the alarm over what it calls “systematic abuse” of European Union medical exemptions, accusing Russia of using a loophole to import banned goods that support its military-industrial complex.

In an exclusive interview, Deputy Foreign Minister Gabija Grigaitė-Daugirda said that Lithuanian customs authorities had blocked the export of nearly 29,000 shipments to Russia and Belarus in 2024, all of which were falsely declared as medical goods.

Among them were vehicle components, refrigeration units, photocopiers, and microelectronic devices, which are often used in modern weapon systems.
