On June 17, Canada announced additional military aid to Ukraine and new sanctions against Russia.
"We are providing additional military aid—drones, helicopters, and other types of weapons—worth more than $2 billion in direct assistance to Ukraine. In addition, we are releasing the next tranche of a loan based on frozen Russian assets, also worth over $2 billion. This is our contribution," Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Canmore, Canada.
The head of government added that “support will be unwavering until we achieve a just peace for the Ukrainian people.”
Canada is imposing restrictive measures on more than 40 legal entities from Russia and other countries “attempting to contribute to circumventing sanctions,” as well as against more than 200 vessels of the so-called shadow fleet.
