The President of Ukraine's Representative for Sanctions Policy, Vladislav Vlasyuk, has denied claims that cooperation between the US and the European Union on sanctions policy has broken down.
Vlasyuk responded to a report on the EP website that, according to German media, there had been a “breakdown in cooperation” between the EU and the US in the joint fight against Moscow's evasion of sanctions.
Vlasyuk disagreed that there had been a “breakdown in cooperation” and assured that interaction between the partners was continuing despite changes in the political context.
"I communicate with American sanctions officials and have seen them twice in three weeks at joint working meetings in Europe, where we discussed both circumvention of sanctions and strengthening sanctions. Is it the same “momentum” that was there before? No, but only because of the political context. Is it a “breakdown in cooperation”? Absolutely not," he insists.
Vlasyuk emphasized that there is still an active exchange of information and ideas within the sanctions coalition.
According to him, all participants in the process are aware of each other's plans: the UK is preparing new sanctions, the EU is working on the 18th package, and the US is working on measures against the “shadow fleet” and schemes to circumvent restrictions.
At the same time, he noted that it would be difficult for the EU to reach a new decision on sanctions without US support on the issue of Hungary's position.
“As before, there is a lot of exchange of information and ideas within the sanctions coalition. Everyone is roughly aware of each other's plans,” Vlasyuk stressed.
