Macron explained why the EU will not confiscate frozen Russian assets and pointed out an important detail

“We have no legal basis for using these assets,” Macron told reporters when asked about the confiscation of frozen Russian assets.

At the same time, he said that in the future, “it is important not to allow Russia to return them in the event of a collapse of the joint Western sanctions regime.”
