According to diplomats, following Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's rejection of the “silence regime,” leaders of the European Union (EU) and Britain are looking for ways to deliver a “knockout blow” to the Russian economy.
The plan under discussion is inspired by a proposal by Republican Lindsey Graham, who suggested imposing a 500% sanction on Russian exports. Potential measures against Moscow could include tariffs on Russian exports or a complete trade embargo.
Although Graham is unlikely to win support from White House chief Donald Trump on sanctions against Russia, Ukraine's supporters could push through their own “mega-package” without US involvement.
Today, May 16, EU countries and their neighbors, including Ukraine and Britain, are gathering in Albania for the sixth summit of the European Political Community (EPC).
