This was stated in Strasbourg by Adam Szlapka, Minister for European Affairs in the Polish government.

As noted by the radio, on Tuesday, 6 May, the European Commission sent EU member states a draft of the 17th package of sanctions against Russia.

‘We are not giving up on putting pressure on the Russian military economy through sanctions. Work on the next, 17th package has just begun. I hope it will be completed by the end of the Polish Presidency,’ Szlapka said.

According to him, sanctions should go hand in hand with the provision of weapons to Ukraine to strengthen Kyiv ahead of possible negotiations on a ceasefire.

‘Our position is clear and unchanged: Ukraine must be in a strong position to be able to negotiate a good agreement and protect it after the document is signed,’ the Polish minister stressed.

According to Polish Radio, the 17th package of sanctions includes, among other things, a ban on the export to Russia of chemicals used in rocket engines. In addition, more companies, including those from Turkey, Serbia, Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates, may face trade restrictions for circumventing EU sanctions.
