The Dutch Public Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case against one of the largest shipbuilding companies, Damen Shipyards, its CEO Arno Damen, and two former executives. They are suspected of bribery, money laundering, and violating sanctions against Russia by supplying technology and equipment even after 2022.

The case has been under investigation for more than seven years; Damen faces a ban on participating in EU tenders, which puts contracts with the Dutch Ministry of Defence worth more than €5 billion at risk. The investigation also revealed that the company had been overpaying agents abroad for years, creating risks of bribery of officials.
