Danish Ambassador to Ukraine Ole Egberg Mikkelsen said that it is necessary to rebuild Ukraine before the end of a full-scale war with russia.

He believes that the country's recovery cannot wait for the end of hostilities.

"Some people say reconstruction is good, but we have to wait for peace. As soon as peace comes, we will need a big conference and a big plan. We say: no, we can't wait for that. We have to start now. I think this is a lesson learned in Mykolaiv: it's right to start while the war is still going on, because it gives us hope that one day this nightmare will end and there will be someone who will help us. And this actually, I think, has inspired some optimism. We see people coming back to Mykolaiv," he said.

Mikkelsen, on behalf of Denmark, called on countries and financial institutions not to wait until the war in Ukraine is over, but to do something now. The mayor of one of the towns where Denmark has helped a local factory told him that if the company does not work, there is nothing to do in the town.

"And now it is working. And every time I go, I see cars parked outside many houses, I see women walking down the street with strollers, and the school has reopened. It's very tangible, very concrete, it's something that matters, and that's what we want to do. We want to change the situation now, not when peace comes," the ambassador emphasized.

The funds are needed not only to rebuild the destroyed infrastructure, but also to carry out reforms, stimulate economic growth and create conditions for sustainable development.
