The Chinese Foreign Ministry has called on Ukraine to ‘immediately correct its mistakes’ and not to impose sanctions on Chinese citizens and companies for their alleged cooperation with the russian military-industrial complex. The ministry's position was published by the Chinese state agency Xinhua.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian made the statement at a daily press briefing in response to a question about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's statements regarding the imposition of a new round of sanctions against russian organisations and individuals who assist russia, including citizens of other countries, particularly China. He stressed that Beijing will resolutely defend the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises and citizens.

Lin noted that China has always opposed unilateral sanctions that violate international law and are not authorised by the United Nations Security Council.

He added that since the start of the ‘crisis in Ukraine’ — as Beijing calls russia's war against Ukraine — China has maintained close contact with all parties and remains committed to promoting a ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities, as well as advancing peace talks.

‘China's efforts are evident to the international community,’ the spokesman said, stressing that his country would continue to play a constructive role in this regard.
