According to British Foreign Secretary David Liam, the sanctions are intended to ‘deprive russia of vital oil revenues that it uses to fund the war’ against Ukraine.

The sanctions list includes 135 tankers which, according to the British authorities, are part of the so-called ‘shadow fleet’ used by russia to transport oil and petroleum products. According to London, these tankers have transported russian oil worth $24 billion since the beginning of 2024.

Sanctions have also been imposed on two companies involved in the transport of russian oil. Litasco Middle East is allegedly a foreign subsidiary of the Lukoil oil company based in the UAE. The second company, Intershipping Services, is also located in the UAE. It is alleged to be involved in the transport of russian oil on ships flying the flags of Gabon and the Comoros.
