Bulgarian MPs Ivailo Mirchev and Nadezhda Yordanova, representing the political party "We Continue to Change - Democratic Bulgaria," have introduced a bill aimed at freezing russian property belonging to sanctioned individuals.

Drafted against the backdrop of russia's ongoing war in Ukraine, the bill aims to ensure Bulgaria's compliance with international restrictive measures.

The draft law contains provisions on maintaining a public list of sanctioned persons on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria in order to protect the rights of third parties.

The draft law also provides for the return of the Kamchiya sanitary rehabilitation complex to Bulgarian ownership.

The draft law's authors are counting on the support of other parliamentary factions.

As a reminder, Bulgaria is the only country in the EU that has not imposed sanctions on any russian citizen or russian company on the EU sanctions list. Currently, Bulgaria has no domestic instruments to implement sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council or the EU. The most difficult issue is the legal application of sanctions against russia, as Bulgarian legislation does not contain the term "freezing" of property, as used by other EU countries about russian assets, the newspaper notes.
