As part of the implementation of economic sanctions against russia for violating Ukraine's sovereignty, assets and funds totaling more than CAD 457 million (over USD 333 million) have been blocked in Canada.
This was stated by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, responsible for monitoring compliance with sanctions.
“Since February 24, 2022, a total of CAD 140.1 million worth of assets have been frozen in Canada and financial transactions worth more than CAD 317.2 million have been suspended in accordance with the prohibitions set out in the Special Economic Measures Act against the russian federation,” law enforcement officials said.
The police added that they had also blocked financial transactions worth CAD 387.2 thousand and frozen assets worth CAD 116.1 thousand associated with the sanctioned Belarusian individuals.
The last time similar monetary data on Canadian anti-russian sanctions were published was in September last year, and since then the total value of frozen property and funds has increased by only CAD 32 million, and the list of sanctioned persons has been expanded.
