Beijing has called on the United States to “stop illegal actions” after Chinese companies were added to a list of sanctions targeting supply chains that feed russia and undermine its wartime economy.
China has promised to “take the necessary measures to resolutely protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies,” the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said in a statement on Sunday.
As a reminder, on August 23, the U.S. Treasury Department published a list of newly sanctioned entities, which included russian citizens and companies registered in Hong Kong and mainland China. The ministry said in a statement that the sanctions would target those who provide products and services that allow Russia to support military actions against Ukraine and evade sanctions.
Earlier this year, Chinese President Xi Jinping warned the top U.S. diplomat that the United States should not target or oppose China. At the time, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the Asian country is russia's main supplier of military machine tools and compounds used in ammunition and rocket fuel.
