The Czech Republic is discussing with partners ways to use frozen russian assets to help rebuild Ukraine. This was announced by Prime Minister Petr Fiala at a joint press conference with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Prague.
"Freezing russian property is a big topic in the Czech Republic. It is happening in the Czech Republic, and it is happening in other European countries. We are now discussing with our European friends how we can use this property to restore Ukraine. This is a difficult topic, complicated from a legal point of view. We are having intensive discussions, trying to decide how we can use this blocked property for the benefit of Ukraine, so that the recovery is successful and fast," he said.
The Czech Ministry of Finance reported that the country has frozen russian assets worth about 10 billion krowns ($457 million). This includes money, real estate and shares in companies.
Currently, there is no law in the Czech Republic that would allow the transfer of frozen Russian assets to rebuild Ukraine. And, unlike Estonia, which has developed a mechanism for confiscating Russian assets, the Czech Republic is participating in the development of a joint solution within the EU, the country's Foreign Ministry explained.
