This was reported by the press service of the Estonian Foreign Ministry, according to European Pravda.
The initiative was put forward by Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna. He stressed that the Belarusian regime's violence against Belarusians, its human rights violations and its participation in russia's aggression in Ukraine have not changed, so it is necessary to continue implementing the existing sanctions.
‘Almost five years after the introduction of sanctions, there have been no positive changes in Belarus. We cannot turn a blind eye to the ongoing repression, so the sanctions must remain in place without any time limit,’ the Estonian minister explained.
The list of individuals subject to Estonian sanctions includes 273 people, among them Belarusian senior officials, judges, security forces, propagandists and individuals close to Lukashenko, including the self-proclaimed president himself.
The Estonian government has agreed to extend the sanctions and make them indefinite.
The Estonian government imposed sanctions against Belarusian individuals responsible for the falsification of the Belarusian presidential elections and related human rights violations in August 2020. They were temporary and have been extended several times.
