On Wednesday, 15 October, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna signed a decision to impose sanctions on two individuals involved in politically motivated prosecutions, violations of international law, undermining Estonia's sovereignty, and suppressing democratic values and human rights.

‘When our people who dare to stand up to the darkness and cruelty of Putin's bloody regime are persecuted, there will be consequences,’ Tsahkna said.

He noted that sanctions will be imposed on prosecutor Lyudmila Balandina and judge Dmitry Gordeev.

The Estonian foreign minister noted that both Balandina and Gordeev are directly responsible for the prosecution of Smorzhevskoj-Smirnovoj.

‘Both of them have contributed for years to the spread of russian propaganda, the strengthening of Putin's repressive regime and the violation of freedom of speech and human rights,’ he emphasised.

The sanctions will take effect on Wednesday and will ban russians from entering Estonia.
