Germany proposes to introduce a tax of solidarity with Ukraine

Monika Schnitzer, chairman of the Council of Economic Experts under the German government (the "Council of Wise Men"), called for the introduction of a surcharge to the income tax to help Ukraine - a solidarity tax with Ukraine (Ukraine-Solidaritätszuschlag).

"Special events require special measures. The introduction of a solidarity tax with Ukraine as a surcharge on income tax to provide military aid could be a response to this challenge," Schnitzer explained.

She acknowledged that such a measure would be unpopular. "But in the end, this war is also about our security. It is better to act now than when russia's aggression unexpectedly requires completely different measures," the head of the Council of Wise Men emphasized.
