It was carrying over 33,000 tonnes of ferrous metals.
This was reported by the Italian Financial Guard and local media outlet ANSA.
The ship was detained as part of European Union sanctions against russia. Four people are under investigation for violations: the importer, the shipowner and two crew members.
Inspections carried out after the ship entered the port revealed ‘serious discrepancies, falsifications and alterations in the ship's documentation regarding its berthing locations and cargo operations.’ After checking the documentation and analysing the data, law enforcement officers confirmed that the ship was in the port of Novorossiysk from 13 to 16 November 2025 and was carrying prohibited cargo.
In addition, the ship's AIS system was deactivated near Novorossiysk, russia, presumably to prevent control by the competent authorities.
