As part of its 18th package of sanctions, the EU has decided to remove three gas tankers belonging to the Japanese company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) from the sanctions list. The vessels North Moon, North Ocean and North Light were only sanctioned in June as part of the 17th package.
These ships are specially built for sailing in northern waters and have an average ice class of Arc4. Because of this, it was assumed that they could transport liquefied gas from the russian Arctic LNG 2 plant.
After being added to the sanctions list, MOL said it would seek a compromise with the authorities. In the 18th package of sanctions, the EU already noted that the ships had been removed after ‘firm commitments’ that they would no longer be used to transport energy resources from the Yamal LNG and Arctic LNG 2 projects.
