Latvia and Canada must work on legal solutions to provide support to Ukraine and speed up the adoption of common decisions about the establishment of a special tribunal and confiscation of Russia's frozen asserts for the reconstruction of Ukraine, Justice Minister Inese Libina-Egnere said during a meeting with Canadian Senate Speaker George Fury.
Libina-Egnere met with Fury and senators to discuss Canada's legal solution for the confiscation of the frozen assets and calling Russia to account for its war crimes in Ukraine.
In her address, Libina-Egnere noted that Canada is a great ally of Latvia and that Latvia is grateful to Canada for the security support it is providing to Latvia, which includes the presence of Canadian forces in Latvia and Canada's active stance against Russia's aggression in Ukraine.
Both officials agreed to promote cooperation in developing legal solutions for the confiscation of the frozen assets and agreed that cooperation between countries is an essential mechanisms for strengthening the rule of law and security.
