The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has prepared a draft Cabinet resolution to establish a national sanctions regime.

The ministry stated that this step is necessary to respond to national security threats arising from Russian aggression.

According to the law, national sanctions are introduced by a government resolution and include a specific list of individuals subject to restrictions. The decision enters into force immediately upon signature, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must notify the Financial Intelligence Unit.

The content of the draft and the potential individuals to be included in the sanctions list have not yet been disclosed.
