On 18 July, the EU adopted new sanctions against russia. This is the 18th package of measures against the russian energy, financial and military sectors. Liechtenstein has already independently implemented the first part of the sanctions, as announced in a press release. ‘The government is thus consistently continuing its previous policy,’ the statement said. According to the government, the new sanctions are intended to further restrict trade between the EU and russia.
The new package includes travel and financial sanctions against 14 individuals and 41 organisations from russia. The measures also extend to Belarus and Moldova: according to the government, eight organisations and one legal entity from Belarus have been added to the sanctions list. ‘The restrictive measures are part of a package with which the EU ensures that sanctions against russia cannot be circumvented via Belarus,’ the government said in explaining its decision. New travel and financial sanctions are being imposed on seven individuals and three organisations from Moldova.
‘The EU sanctions are a response to actions that violate and undermine the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Moldova, as well as its democracy, the rule of law and stability,’ the government said in a statement to the media.
