President Gitanas Nauseda assures that he wants the fourteenth package of sanctions against russia to include the state corporation Rosatom, as well as aluminum and more russian banks. He said this upon arrival at the EU summit.
Nauseda emphasized that the sanctions policy should be continued despite how successful it has been so far.
"Even if the effect of the sanctions was lower than we expected, we must continue and we must introduce more sectoral sanctions because they are the most effective," he said.
He also said the EU should continue to fight sanctions evasion.
"This is becoming a big problem and we see that many third countries, unfortunately, are involved in such sanctions circumvention. We have to block it," he said.
In addition, the Lithuanian president said, russian grain has become a real problem, not only economically but also politically.
"Traditionally, we want Rosatom, we want LNG (liquefied natural gas), we want aluminum and even more banks. I know that some nuclear energy issues, and I had the opportunity to discuss this issue with the French president during my last visit to Paris, are problematic. They are not ready for this yet, but our task is to move forward," Nauseda said.
