Portugal has frozen about €18 million in assets of people on the EU’s Russian sanctions list, Portuguese Foreign Affairs Minister João Gomes Cravinho said on Wednesday.
“We in Portugal have assets seized, frozen, assets of people who are on the sanctions list to the tune of eighteen million euros,” the minister told journalists on the sidelines of the North Atlantic Council meeting in which foreign ministers of members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation were taking part at the Palace of Parliament in Bucharest, and which ends on Wednesday.
Gomes Cravinho was questioned on the European Commission’s proposal, made today to member states of the EU, for the temporary seizure of assets frozen from oligarchs, within the scope of sanctions adopted against Russia, and their application to finance the reconstruction of Ukraine.
