The new government of Portugal is in favor of toughening sanctions against russia over its invasion of Ukraine.
This was stated by the Minister of Environment and Energy of Portugal Maria da Graca Carvalho.
The European Commission is expected to propose restrictions on russian liquefied natural gas, including a ban on transshipment to the EU, in the next package of sanctions.
“The Portuguese government supports the energy policy of the European Union, namely measures aimed at safeguarding our strategic sovereignty... as well as strengthening sanctions to force russia to stop the invasion,” the minister said.
The center-right minority government came to power last month after narrowly winning the March 10 elections that ended eight years of Socialist rule.
