This was reported to Suspilne by a top EU diplomat.

‘Slovakia is blocking sanctions despite “good and productive” negotiations with the Commission (on the REPower EU roadmap for phasing out Russian energy). Anger is growing in the room as we are wasting time and need to respond firmly to the recent Russian attacks,’ our interlocutor said.

The issue of maintaining the upper price cap on oil also remains unresolved, as three member states (according to Suspilne, these are Greece, Cyprus and Malta — ed.) do not want to apply it, he said.

The next discussion of the package will take place at a meeting of EU ambassadors on 11 July.

‘We sincerely hope that an agreement will be reached and that the EU Foreign Affairs Council will be able to approve this much-needed new package on Tuesday,’ our source told Suspilne.
