Of the 24 yachts, two are actually blocked. These are yachts that were in the Netherlands for maintenance. And they will stay here for now.
These two yachts are "frozen" because they are owned by Russians or Russian companies that are on the European sanctions list. The sanctions were imposed because of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The list includes individuals and companies that support Putin's war.
The owners of the other 22 yachts are not on the sanctioned list. However, even these yachts may not be handed over to the Russian owner, since the export of luxury items worth more than 300 euros to Russia is prohibited.
Although companies are required to clearly state who the UBO ("ultimate beneficial owner") is, this is often not the case. And because of this, it is more difficult for customs to find out who is the real owner of the vessel.
For three of the 22 ships, it is not even clear who the real owner is, as customs are still investigating. Therefore, it is quite possible that these ships will still be blocked or excluded from the list. This happened to two ships, the customs reported. They were sold to a non-Russian buyer.
