Out of 45 criminal investigations, 29 are related to violations of import and export rules. The remaining investigations concern violations of financial sanctions.
As part of one criminal investigation, a criminal case has already been opened, in which a person is suspected of, in particular, exporting microchips to Russia through Kazakhstan. This case has not yet been considered on its merits.
Circumvention of sanctions rules is punishable by up to six years in prison.
Last month, Statistics Netherlands reported that over the past year, the Netherlands exported far fewer products to Russia. Semiconductors and microcircuits, which are on the sanctions list, showed the largest decrease in exports.
