This was reported by the Council's press service, according to European Pravda.

These are economic sanctions, first introduced in 2014 and significantly expanded since February 2022 in response to russia's full-scale invasion.

They consist of a wide range of sectoral measures, including restrictions on trade, finance, energy, technology and dual-use goods, industry, transport and luxury goods.

The sanctions also cover: a ban on the import or transfer by sea of crude oil and certain petroleum products from russia to the EU, the exclusion of several russian banks from the SWIFT system, and the suspension of activities and licences in the European Union of several Kremlin-backed disinformation media outlets.

In addition, specific measures give the EU the ability to counteract the circumvention of sanctions.

The European Union remains ready to increase pressure on russia, including through the imposition of additional sanctions, the EU Council said.
