He said this before the start of the European Council meeting in Brussels, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.
‘We are in favour of using frozen russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine. As I have already said, this must be a technically and financially feasible solution,’ Schoof said.
He also expressed understanding for Belgium's position, which expresses concern about the risks.
"I understand the position of my Belgian colleagues that we must share the risks, and I still believe that. But I think it is also very important that these funds are available for Ukraine's needs. And that is why I say that they must specify what exactly they want to spend them on," said the Dutch Prime Minister.
Schoof emphasised the need to agree on a mechanism for sharing risks between EU and G7 countries and to make these funds available for Ukraine's immediate needs and long-term reconstruction.
‘We are talking about huge sums of money, and Ukraine needs a lot of money. It is important that Ukraine receives the necessary support. This requires significant resources, and in the longer term, also for reconstruction,’ he said.
According to him, ‘this needs to be considered very carefully.’ ‘These are russian assets, and russia is also the aggressor, so we have to see how to make this practically feasible,’ the head of government stressed.
He welcomed the US sanctions against russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil.
