The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the Ministry of Finance has officially lifted sanctions against Belavia and an aircraft operated by the airline, which, according to preliminary data from the ministry, was used by Lukashenko's officials and family members.
It also issued a general licence allowing certain operations involving the use of three previously sanctioned aircraft by Lukashenko or Slavkal, a company linked to his government.
According to preliminary statements by the Ministry of Finance, the aircraft covered by the licence are a Boeing 737 owned by the Belarusian government and used as a presidential aircraft, and another aircraft that was part of the presidential air fleet.
It is also noted that the third aircraft was a luxury helicopter owned by Slavkal and used to transport Lukashenko between his suburban residence and Minsk.
In recent weeks, Donald Trump's administration has been trying to establish contact with the regime in Minsk, as evidenced by the release of Belarusian political prisoners.
