The United States will propose that G7 countries establish a legal mechanism to seize frozen Russian assets and consider using them to fund Ukraine's defense, according to Bloomberg.

Sources cited by the outlet say senior U.S. officials have already discussed with their European counterparts the idea of gradually seizing frozen Russian assets to increase pressure on Moscow and push it toward negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

The report does not specify the exact purposes for which the frozen Russian assets would be used.

It is noted that Canada, which currently holds the G7 presidency, convened a meeting of the group’s finance ministers on Friday to discuss further steps to increase pressure on Russia.
