Three countries urge EU not to confiscate frozen russian assets

Countries that are favorable to russia are calling on the EU to abandon any plans for a massive confiscation of frozen russian assets.
Representatives of China, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia are privately pushing the EU to continue to resist pressure from the United States and the United Kingdom to confiscate more than 200 billion euros of russian assets frozen after the full-scale invasion of russia in February 2022. The United States and Britain believe that russian assets could be used to help Ukraine rebuild.
The concern is that "this would set a precedent" - in other words, these countries fear that they could be next.
This may also be a lobbying motive for these countries. They may not only be afraid of a precedent, but also act in Putin's interests, not wanting the EU to help Ukraine on the battlefield.
"I admit that the russians could have asked their friends to create this hype," said a senior diplomat from a non-EU country, speaking on condition of anonymity.
