UK preparing legislation to confiscate Russian assets

This comes in light of a call issued earlier this month by Poland and the Baltic states for the EU to use frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine.

 

February 13, Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrei Kelin told  that London is planning to seize frozen Russian assets and is currently drafting legislation to do so.

 

Draft law from private deputies was submitted to the parliament on February 7. However, official information about it, as well as the text of the project, appeared on the website of the Parliament only on the eve of its hearing in the second reading in the House of Commons.

 

A Bill to require the Secretary of State to lay before Parliament proposals for the seizure of Russian state assets to provide support for Ukraine; and for connected purposes.
