He said this on Wednesday, 27 August, in an interview with Fox Business.

 

‘Regarding frozen russian assets: I think this is part of the negotiations with Putin. Therefore, I do not believe that we should confiscate them immediately. This is one of the important levers in the process of complex negotiations,’ he said.


At the same time, Bessent criticised the EU and G7 countries for not joining the US in raising tariffs on India and continuing to buy petroleum products from russian oil.

 

According to the US Treasury Department, sanctions against influential russian individuals have frozen an additional $58 billion in assets, including luxury real estate, yachts and private jets.
