Orbán said this on 14 November during his weekly interview with Hungarian state radio, according to Euractiv.

‘We do not accept this obviously illegal decision, which contradicts European values, which Brussels has chosen in order to remove a national government that disagrees with it,’ Viktor Orbán said. ‘We are appealing to the European Court of Justice.’

The idea of filing a lawsuit was considered by the Hungarian government a month earlier, Euractiv writes. Last month, EU countries agreed to stop all remaining imports of russian gas by the end of 2027: the decision was supported by all countries except Hungary and Slovakia.

According to Orbán, this EU decision is a sanction that required unanimous approval by all EU countries, rather than a trade measure that could be adopted by a majority vote. He also added that he is looking for ‘other, non-legal’ ways to influence the European Union, but did not disclose any details. Separately, Orbán mentioned an agreement with US President Donald Trump, whom he called his ‘dear friend,’ and said that despite the previously announced conditions, this agreement could last more than a year, as it depends on a ‘personal agreement between the two leaders.’
