“Previous loans and emergency funding are not enough. Only the use of the assets themselves guarantees that russia will pay for its crimes,” the statement reads.
According to the deputies, the government must decide how to legally transfer $300 billion of frozen reserves of the Central Bank of the russian federation to Ukraine.
In their opinion, the transfer of at least 25.5 billion pounds sterling, which are kept in accounts in the UK, will send a “clear signal” of strategic determination and help prevent future conflicts.
The letter was signed by more than ten British MPs, as well as eight senior parliamentarians from allied countries: Germany, Poland, the Baltic States and Finland.
The UK has the largest amount of frozen russian reserves outside the EU.
