German automaker BMW has announced that it has discovered irregularities in the export of cars from its branch* in Hanover that made it possible to supply them to russia. These violations were discovered through internal controls, and further sales of the vehicles have been suspended, the company said in a statement.
“In addition, the BMW Group has decided to dismiss the employees who are most responsible for this,” the company's press service said.
In this way, BMW confirmed the report of Business Insider, which earlier wrote that more than 100 premium cars were delivered to russian customers from the BMW branch in Hanover.
Due to the aggressive war against Ukraine, international trade with russia is subject to various sanctions, including those imposed by the European Union. In particular, the supply of cars to russian customers is under a strict embargo.
However, according to BMW, manufacturers from various sectors suffer from the fact that their products are available for sale in russia or are offered in russia despite the fact that companies are trying to comply with the sanctions. This usually happens through so-called gray imports. BMW Group is trying to prevent such imports through various measures, the company assured.
