The Finnish Customs reported that since 2022, more than 900 pre-trial investigations have been opened into the illegal export of goods under sanctions. In 2024, the number of such violations decreased due to the closure of the Finnish-russian border.
It is noted that most violations are minor and are settled by fines. These are mainly individuals who crossed the border with a small amount of sanctioned goods. Other crimes relate to planned actions to export goods that could be used by the russian army.
“In October 2024, Finnish customs began investigating a criminal scheme in which a company from the east of the country transported drones, sonar, processors and other electronics worth several hundred thousand euros to russia,” the article adds.
