“This year, thanks to the interest from frozen russian assets, we are opening a new envelope of €195 million for military assistance to Ukraine,” said the Minister of the French Armed Forces.
This amount, according to Lecorneuil, will allow Ukraine to receive 155-millimeter shells and AASM glider bombs, which are equipped with previously transferred aircraft.
He also mentioned the acceleration of the transfer of old equipment, “in particular AMX-10RC tanks and VAB armored vehicles.”
Lecorneu called the decision to halt U.S. aid to Ukraine a “heavy blow.” At the same time, he wants to preserve ties between France and the United States, and therefore is going to visit the Pentagon in the near future.
France itself, according to the plan, should increase the production of weapons for its own needs, in particular, supply four to five Rafale fighters per month from 2026, compared to two aircraft in 2024, and increase the production of AASM glider bombs and Akeron MP anti-tank missiles.
“What we are proposing is not a military effort, it is a defense effort. Because we are not at war. On the contrary, we want to guarantee peace, and the best way to do that is to have a ready defense apparatus, sovereign and autonomous,” Lecornu emphasized.
