The 16th package of sanctions against the aggressor country will include new important elements.

In particular, restrictive measures will be applied against 11 russian ports and airports, in particular those involved in circumventing international restrictions on the maximum price of russian oil delivered by sea. The new package will include another 73 vessels involved in the activities of the russian shadow fleet in the sanctions list.

In addition, another 13 russian banks will be disconnected from the SWIFT payment system, while three financial institutions will be completely banned from conducting transactions.

It is expected that 8 russian media outlets will be deprived of their broadcasting licenses in the EU.

The EU sanctions will be imposed on 48 individuals and 35 institutions, which will be subject to a financial asset freeze and a ban on entry to the EU.

In addition, the new EU sanctions package includes a ban on exports to russia of certain categories of goods (chemical precursors, chromium, other products used in CNC machines), as well as a ban on the provision of services in the gas and oil refining sectors.

The EU will also impose a ban on imports of russian aluminum.

Additional legal measures have been adopted against the use of russian unmanned aerial vehicles, and new criteria have been introduced for sanctioning institutions, for example, for supporting russian defense production, and against owners and operators of vessels belonging to the russian “shadow fleet” and their captains.

These and other elements of the new package of sanctions will be “mirrored” against Belarus and will extend to the non-government controlled regions of Ukraine.

In his turn, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, clarified that the 16th package of EU sanctions against russia takes into account a number of Ukrainian proposals.

"The news that there will be a 16th package of sanctions against russia is good. I know that a number of our proposals have been taken into account. We need to prepare the 17th. I believe that sanctions are one of the key mechanisms to curb russia's desire to kill more,” Yermak said.
