In France, local police have detained Russian oligarch Alexei Kuzmichev on suspicion of money laundering, tax fraud, and violation of international sanctions.
As part of the preliminary investigation, the French police anti-corruption department conducted numerous searches at several locations, including properties in Paris owned by Kuzmichev. Searches also took place at his villa in the resort town of Saint-Tropez.
It is noted that Kuzmichev is a shareholder of Alfa Group, one of Russia's largest private investment companies. He has been subject to EU sanctions along with several other co-owners of the company because of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
